Qld aged care worker banned from health work over theft charges
The Moreton Bay aged care worker allegedly stole $9000 from four elderly residents
A north Brisbane aged care worker has been temporarily banned from working in health after she allegedly stole from elderly residents, leading to over 100 fraud charges.
Police allege 23-year-old Margate woman Lily Marie Miszuk used her employment at Rothwell’s Seabrae Manor Aged Care to steal from four elderly residents.
She allegedly snuck into rooms and attained bank details from the elderly victims, making 110 fraudulent purchases that totalled up to around $9000.
The state Health Ombudsman issued an interim prohibition order on Ms Miszuk on Monday, stopping her from doing any health work while her charges continue to be heard in court.
Ms Miszuk’s alleged victims were three women – 82, 85, and 93-years-old – as well as a 95-year-old man.
A Seabrae Manor spokesperson said they are deeply disappointed by the offender’s alleged actions.
“This is the first incident of this kind since Seabrae Manor opened in 2014,” they said.
“It’s important to note that the alleged actions were limited to one individual,” they added, reiterating the commitment of its team.
Ms Miszuk has also been charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent, entering dwelling and committing, and obtaining identification information.
The spokesperson said the facility will continue to work with authorities until the matter is resolved.
“We conducted extensive internal investigations and worked closely with police over the past 12 months to help identify a suspect,” they said.
“We have also held multiple briefings with residents and families, provided education on safeguarding personal valuables, and hosted information sessions with local police.”
Ms Miszuk’s case is expected to be heard for a mention in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on November 20.
