Tracey McDonald: gerontological nurses face politics, bias

“Many of the impediments to education and practice in gerontology fields are driven by policy frameworks that are exposed to political influence and competition – and we have to engage with it constructively.”

This is one of the key points Tracey McDonald, RSL LifeCare chair of ageing at Australian Catholic University and director, RSL LifeCare Centre for Practice Development raised when discussing the issues gerontological nurses are currently facing in the latest instalment of the Nursing Review podcast series.

McDonald also delved into issues to do with negative positioning and identity politics within the profession, and normalisation of bias and prejudice.
